April 9, 2008 Senior Bulldog Foundation - various amounts. Selection will be based on letters of recommendation; extracurricular activities (school and community) a personal statement, any awards, honors or recognition, involvement with leadership, sports or work experience. There will be an interview for this scholarship which will be held at BHS.

These scholarships are only for Burbank High School students.

April 11, 2008 American Fire Sprinkler Association - $5,000.

Eligibility: high school senior who plans to further their education at a college/university or trade school. Scholarship is not based on financial need. An essay and recommendation are required. Contest is limited to the first 1,000 eligible entries received. Contest opens on October 2. Apply at

 

April 11, 2008 Keiko Morimoto Hentell Scholarship - $1,000. MUST BE A BHS STUDENT TO APPLY. Requires a written essay and one letter of recommendation. Keiko Hentell was a former Principal of BHS!

 

April 11, 2008 Burbank High School PTSA ($500) Burbank High School Seniors who are

members of the PTSA are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

The scholarship can be used at a college, university or trade school.

Selection will be based on grades, seriousness of purpose, character and special circumstances.

 

April 11, 2008 California Alarm Association - various amounts. Applicants mus be the children of active duty law enforcement and fire service personnel in the State of California. The program rewards students who have excelled academically and are active in community service and extracurricular activities at their school.

 

April 12, 2008 USC - The George Woolery Triangle Achievement Scholarship - $250 - $1,000. Available to all incoming male freshman. Candidates will be evaluated on three criteria: academic success, demonstrated leadership, and excellence in organized athletics.

 

April 14, 2008 Smallenburg Family Scholarship Award (2) $500 awards. Criteria for selection: minimum GPA 3.25; two letters of recommendation, extra-curricular activities; statement of future plans, list of AP and/or honors classes, list of special honors or recognition.

Applicants must have attended BHS for al least three years.

April 15, 2008 American Foreign Service Association - $500.00 - $2,500.00. Essay contest, 750 to 1,000 words, discuss the following topic: Analyze and explain what you think will be the Challenges Facing the American Foreign Service in the 21 st Century.

April 15, 2008 Education is Freedom National Scholarship Program - $2,000.00 Eligibility: U.S. resident, GPA of 3.0 - 3.5, planning to attend an accredited 2- or 4-year college/university. Selection will be based on activities/leadership, work history, financial need. Renewable up to 3 years. Application period March 1, 2008 - April 15, 2008.

April 15, 2008 Tzu Chi Scholars 2007 (Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, USA) - $1,000. Selection is based on financial need, academic achievement, community involvement. Minimum GPA 3.0, requires a personal statement, two letters of recommendation.

April 17, 2008 Glendale Area Alumnae Panhellenic - Attention College Bound Females - Attend a fun ice cream social and learn about the Panhellenic Scholarship. This event is for all girls planning to attend a 4-year college or university who may be interested in learning about sororities. To be eligible to apply for the scholarship you must attend this meeting. Applications for the scholarship will only be made available at this meeting.

April 18, 2008 Gordon R. Howard Family Scholarship - THIS SCHOLARSHIP IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO BHS AND JBHS STUDENTS. Selection is based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community service, work experience, and financial need. Requires a personal statement and letters of recommendation. Applicants should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or have demonstrated significant academic improvement during high school

April 19, 2008 Bill Coggins Community Service Leadership Award - $250 - $2,000.

Criteria: minimum GPA of 2.5; demonstrate a commitment to community service leadership; can document hours of voluntary community service completed since January 2006, planning to attend a community college/ four year college, university of vocational/technical school.

April 24, 2008 Burbank Magnolia Park Optimist Club - 10 awards to Burbank students.

Applicants must be planning to attend a four-year college or university in the fall of 2008. Selection will be based on a combination of need, academic achievement, extra curricular activities, school and community service. Requires two letters of recommendation.

April 25, 2008 ALPHA-LA -Alliance to Preserve the History of WW II in Asia (5) $50 - $500. 1,200 words or less essay contest. The topic is: Analysis of Postwar Behaviors Between Germany and Japan. Selection will be based on research, original thought and composition.

April 26, 2008 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. - Criteria: African-American student planning to attend college; minimum GPA of 2.5; community service; extra-curricular activities. Requires three letters of recommendation, transcript, photo, acceptance letter from a college or university and an essay.

April 30, 2008 Burbank Emblem Club - $250.00. This scholarship is only available to Burbank students. Selection will be based on: scholastic achievement and financial need.One scholarship is restricted to the medical field which includes nurses, doctors, medical technicians and therapists.

April 30, 2008 Kiwanis Club of Burbank - Career Assistance Award - $1,000.00 to students of Burbank schools. This award will be presented to students who seek to obtain vocational or skills training beyond high school. Two letters of recommendation are required.

April 30, 2008 Burbank Teachers Association - (1,000) for a BHS student. Applicant must be considering teaching as a career as a career goal. Requires two references; a personal statement.

May 1, 2008 Foothill Civitan Club - For Burbank and Burroughs students. Selection is based on academics; awards/honors, involvement in school and community service, employment, athletics, clubs etc. Requires transcript, and two letters of recommendation.

May 1, 2008 BMAC - Burbank Memorial Achievement Council - these awards are for students who attend BHS or JBHS. The scholarship is for scholar athletes with a minimum GPA of 3.0, athletic achievement along with community service. Requires two letters of recommendation.

May 1, 2008 American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation - $1,000. This scholarship is for students interested in pursuing hospitality-related undergraduate programs. This would include: hotel/restaurant management, culinary arts, travel/tourism or hotel administration.

May 2, 2008 The Lila Ashely Barnett-Debney Family Memorial Scholarship for the Performing Arts - $1500 to an outstanding Burbank High School Senior.

Applicants must be planning on attending a college or university and furthering their education in any area of the performing arts. Eligibility: demonstrated achievement in any area of the performing arts; 2.5 or higher GPA; enrolling in a full-time college or university program of performing arts. Requires a recommendation, transcript and photo.

 

May 3, 2008 Seijo Isomoto Scholarship Fund - $1,000. Criteria: Applicant must be of Asian descent who has demonstrated excellence in academics and athletics throughout their high school career. One or both parents must be Asian, minimum GPA of 3.0 in all academic classes, lettered in a high school Varsity sport and must be college bound

 

May 15, 2008 Valley Youth Cheer and Football Scholarship Application - $1,000.00. If you have cheered or played football for one complete season with the Valley Youth Conference (Vikings, Golden Bears, etc. ) you are eligible to submit an application for this scholarship. Requires a short essay, scholarship and activities form, counselor form and transcript.

 

June 1, 2008 Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity - Balanced Man Scholarship - $1,000. This scholarship is for male students who will be attending USC in the fall. These scholarships are offered to male students who strive to achieve a balanced, and well-rounded life. Selection will be based on: leadership, activities, achievements, community service and scholastic information.

 

Oct 1, 2008 KTLA and The Pachanga Band of Luiseno Indians Scholarship - (125) $2,000.

Selection will be based on merit and financial need and an original essay, totaling not more than 500 words on “Why I Want to Further My Education.”

If a student is not yet a legal permanent resident, they should look to private scholarships to help with educational expenses. The majority of scholarships on this list do not require a social security number, legal residency, or citizenship.
